Location: Prince George

Skills required:
  • Field and office forestry related experience
  • Experience with Silviculture Surveys and related silviculture activities
  • Utilize maps and GPS Technology to navigate in the field
  • Knowledgeable regarding current BC Forest Legislation, Regulations, Policies and Guidelines
  • Perform various related operational forestry duties as directed
Qualifications:
  • Preference will be given to candidates that are registered RFT or RPF or eligible for registration with the Association of BC Forest Professional (ABCFP).
  • Accredited Silviculture Surveyor
  • Or have a minimum of 3 to 5 years experience in a related field
Assets:
  • Able to work with others in a team environment
  • Physically fit
  • Valid Class 5 Driving Licence and Safe Driving Record
  • Valid Level 1 First Aid and WHIMS Certificates
  • Professional level skills in problem solving, decision making and organizational abilities

Position: Assistant Nursery Superintendent     Job Posted: Jan. 24, 2012
Industrial Forestry Service Ltd. (IFS) currently has a vacancy for an exceptional individual at our Ness Lake Nursery. The nursery is primarily a greenhouse facility which grows approximately 20.0 million container seedlings annually. The position is fulltime and a great opportunity for the right candidates, to join a progressive nursery group and train and work directly with our nursery management team to develop the skills for a successful career in the forest seedling industry. Location: Prince George

Duties:
  • To learn and become familiar with growing forest seedlings and the events that occur throughout a 12 month work period at Ness Lake Nursery to manipulate the crop in order to meet or exceed contract specifications.
  • Supervise nursery staff and be involved in the following operations:
    • sowing line
    • seedling lifting
    • sorting and packaging
    • seedling cold storage and transportation
    • crop irrigation and fertilization
    • pest, disease and weed management
    • Greenhouse maintenance including application and removal of greenhouse plastic and blackout systems
  • Explain and enforce IFS safety regulations and policies.
  • Train Nursery staff to perform various nursery activities and tasks
  • Be involved Pesticides application.
  • Observe and inspect crops to evaluate plant and soil conditions and make constructive recommendations
  • Be involved in accurately tracking and maintaining seedling inventories
  • Become familiar with the operations of the nurseries computerized environmental control systems
  • Perform any other work assigned by the nursery superintendent and/or the nursery general manager.

Qualifications:
  • Preferred: Degree or Diploma in Forestry, Agriculture, Horticulture or a related Science, or
  • A minimum of four (4) years experience in a supervisory capacity at a forest seedling nursery and graduated from high school.
